Postcard Filtering Options and Power Settings

Choose Your Bird Buddy Experience

Bird Buddy gives you plenty of control over how your camera captures and displays postcards. You can decide how much filtering the AI does and adjust the camera's behavior between sessions. Here’s how to make the most of your Bird Buddy experience.

Filter Options on the Home Screen

On top of your Home Screen, you can find a Filter button that allows you to choose between two postcard viewing modes:

  • More-action mode: In this mode, every photo the Bird Buddy camera takes will be sent to your feed, even if no birds or wildlife are recognized.
  • Curated experience: This is the default mode you’re used to, where the AI filters out lower-quality images and only sends you the best, most interesting photos. This option gives you a more refined, streamlined experience by prioritizing quality over quantity.

You can easily switch between these two modes by tapping the Filter button on the Home screen.

Power Modes in Feeder Settings

In addition to filtering, you can adjust the camera’s behavior between postcard sessions by changing the Power Modes in the Feeder Settings menu. These modes control how long the camera rests between sessions, known as the cooldown period.

  • Standard Mode (Default Mode): Ideal for everyday use, this mode balances postcard creation and battery life. If you’re receiving fewer than 6 postcards a day, Bird Buddy will automatically shorten the camera’s cooldown period to capture more photos and increase postcard numbers while maintaining good battery efficiency.
  • Power Saver Mode: Perfect for users who want to conserve battery life and prefer a calmer birdwatching experience. This mode lengthens the cooldown period, resulting in fewer postcards. It’s great for times when a regular group of birds is triggering similar postcards repeatedly.
  • Frenzy Mode: This mode is for users who want to capture as much bird activity as possible. Frenzy Mode reduces the cooldown period between sessions to its minimum, allowing the camera to take more photos and send more postcards. Keep in mind that even in Frenzy Mode, the camera will still require a short cooldown period (as little as 1 minute), so some birds may still be missed if they land during this time. You can learn more about the standard postcard creation process here.

Important Notes About More-action Mode and Frenzy Mode

While more-action Mode and Frenzy Mode together can significantly increase the number of postcards you receive, it’s important to remember that not every bird visit will be captured. The camera needs a short rest after each session (the cooldown period), so if a bird lands during that time, even with Frenzy Mode, it might not be recorded.

However, these settings provide maximum postcard potential: More-action Mode ensures every photo is visible in your Home feed, and Frenzy Mode minimizes the rest time between sessions.

Recap: How to Maximize Your Experience

  1. Use the Filter button on the Home screen to choose whether the AI filters your photos or shows every image.
  2. Adjust the Mode Settings in Feeder Settings to control how frequently the camera captures new postcards and how long the cooldown period lasts.
  3. Combining More-action Mode with Frenzy Mode will result in the maximum number of postcards, but keep in mind that some bird visits may still be missed due to the cooldown period.
