Hummingbird Postcard Recommendations

Ever wonder why some hummingbird visits don’t turn into postcards? It often comes down to a few simple factors, ones that are easy to fine-tune. Here’s how to help your feeder capture more of those tiny, high-speed guests:

Use the closed side flower pods

Swap out the open side pods with the two closed ones included in the box, leaving just the center pod open. This encourages hummingbirds to feed right in the camera’s sweet spot.

Point the camera North

If your setup allows, point the feeder North. This reduces sun glare for the sensor and helps produce clearer, more vibrant postcards.

Keep the lens clean

Check the live stream now and then to make sure nothing’s blocking the lens. Even a tiny smudge can make a big difference.

Try a shady spot

If North isn’t an option, placing the feeder in a spot with some shade can help stabilize the lighting and improve photo quality, although this isn't recommended for feeders with a solar roof.

We’re always working to make your Birdbuddy experience better, and we’re so grateful to have you on this journey with us.

With the way Birdbuddy and its AI are set up, you might see birds landing on the feeder, but the AI decides that the photos are not interesting enough to send you a postcard. Even with an optimal setup, the Birdbuddy will not create a postcard from every visit.
