Keep in mind:

  • This feature will keep expanding and improving as the AI model learns better.
  • The feature only applies to new postcards and cannot be used with existing images in your Collection.
  • Naming a bird is currently only possible on postcards with at least 3 photos of a single bird shot from different angles.
  • You cannot name the bird if there are more than one species in the postcard or if there are fewer than 3 photos in the session.
  • All images in the postcard need to be determined as interesting by the AI model and the species needs to be recognized.

This feature is currently exclusive to users with a Premium subscription.

How to name a bird

When naming a bird for the first time, you will have to come up with a name for it.

If you have already named birds from this species, the list of names will be displayed and you can choose which bird it is.

Once you have inserted the new name or chosen one from the list, click Submit. You will receive a confirmation message that the postcard has been saved to your Collection and a name applied to it.

Comparing photos

If you are unsure which of the listed birds it is, you can compare the current photo to confirmed past photos. To do so, click on the suggested name(s), and press and hold the images to view them.

Saved in your Collection

Once you have submitted the name, that postcard session will be saved in your Collection, under “By name”, either as a new album or within an already existing one.

Recognized by AI

If a bird you named returns to your feeder and the AI recognizes it, it will send you a notification and you will see the name in the postcard as well.

While our AI will identify individual bird visitors, it will sometimes need your help. You can help it learn by giving feedback about its recognition.

When prompted, click on “Correct” if the individual bird was identified correctly or “Incorrect” if not. If you want to compare the photos to be sure, click on “Review”.

Disclaimer: Currently, changing names is not possible, so please ensure you are certain when giving new names to birds. Postcards are saved both in the named gallery as well as the species gallery. Any changes made in one are not reflected in the other. If you remove a named postcard, its copy in the species gallery will remain there.
