How is the Bird Bath assembled?
Before you start: Choose a suitable outdoor location with a relatively flat ground surface to ensure stability. Make sure your WiFi connection is strong and stable in your chosen spot to avoid potential issues with the signal functionality. TIP: Wear closed-toed shoes during the installation for added safety. Required Tools: Phillips head screwdriver, Rubber mallet.
1. Mounting the Bird Bath
Insert the Center Ground Stake using the rubber mallet until the thin part is completely below ground. Ensure it’s level and at a 90-degree angle to the ground. Slide the wide end of the first Pole Segment into the Center Ground Stake. Assemble the remaining Pole Segments. Ensure metal pins snap into the hole of the next segment.
2. Universal Mount: Install the Universal Mount on the bottom of the Bird Bath basin using the four included screws and a Phillips screwdriver. The Universal Mount is included in every order. It’s the attachment piece for our Wall Mount add-on, pole system extension arm and pole toppers.
3. Placing the Bird Bath: Place the assembled Bird Bath with Universal Mount onto the Pole Topper or the Pole Mounting System Extension Arm.
4. Securing the housing: Pull the USB-C cable through the hole at the top of the Front Housing. Snap the Front Housing into the stem. To remove Front Housing, insert a finger into the charging cable hole and pull.
Keep in mind: The water pump is designed for minimal movement—just enough to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs. Overfilling the basin isn’t harmful, but deeper water makes the motion less visible. Even when filled correctly, movement may be subtle and not create visible ripples.
5. Installing the stem: Align the center output hole with the unlock symbol. Place the Bird Bath stem onto the bayonet and rotate counterclockwise to secure. The center output hole will be aligned with the lock symbol when in place.
6. Connect the camera: Insert the USB-C cable into the Nature Cam. Thread excess cable through the top hole. Place it in the Front Housing so it snaps into the magnet.
7. Attaching the Rock Perch: The Rock Perch makes it easier for your backyard birds to land in the basin. Place Rock Perch on the basin edge directly across from the camera. Push down until you hear a loud click to secure.
How is the Bird Bath cleaned and maintained?
-
Refilling the Water:
Check the water level daily and refill as necessary. Ensure the water level stays above the pump intake holes in the stem to prevent it from running dry. -
Cleaning the Bird Bath:
Wipe your Bird Bath basin and Rock Perch clean at least once a week. In hot weather or if many birds use it, increase the frequency to every few days. Avoid using harsh chemicals. A solution of 1 part vinegar to 9 parts water is great even for deep cleaning and is safe for birds. -
Water Pump Maintenance:
The Water Pump is powered by the Bird Bath Solar Roof. On cloudy days, there might be less water movement. Check the Water Pump sponge filter at least once a week by removing the main stem. Remove any debris. -
Hot and Low Temperatures:
In hot temperatures, make sure to refill the basin with fresh water regularly. We are only guaranteeing the bath can be used in temperatures above 35 degrees Fahrenheit. Users can buy a water heater if they’d like to keep using it during the winter.
How to Attract Birds to Your Smart Bird Bath?
Birds are naturally curious, but they also take time to warm up to new things. Here’s how to make your Smart Bird Bath as inviting as possible:
-
Keep the Water Fresh and Clean
Clean water is key! Birds are drawn to fresh, shallow water for drinking and bathing. Rinse and refill the bowl every couple of days—especially in warm weather—to prevent algae and mosquito buildup. The removable bowl makes this quick and easy.
-
Choose a Safe, Comfortable Spot
Place your bird bath somewhere birds feel safe—ideally near natural cover like trees or bushes. This gives them a quick escape route if they sense danger, while still keeping the bath visible from above.
-
Give It Time
It can take several weeks for birds to start using a new water source. Don’t worry if you don’t see activity right away—it’s normal. Birds need to feel safe and familiar with their environment. Keeping the water fresh and the setup consistent will help build trust over time.
-
Avoid Chemicals
Please don’t use bleach, soaps, or water additives—these can be harmful to birds. Stick with fresh, clean tap water only.
-
Make It Part of a Bird-Friendly Space
Attract even more birds by surrounding your bird bath with native plants or feeders. The more resources you offer (like food, shelter, and water), the more likely birds are to return regularly.
