Postcard Home Feed & Power Settings

The Birdbuddy app offers a simplified and unified way to view your postcards, while still giving you control over how your camera behaves between sessions.

Viewing Postcards in the Feed

Your Birdbuddy feed now displays all postcards in a single, continuous view. This includes both confidently identified bird sightings and those with uncertain results.

What is a Low-Confidence Postcard?

Some postcards may be marked with a red Low Confidence tag. This means that our system couldn’t confidently identify the bird in the image. These postcards may fall into one of the following categories:

  • Mystery visitor – No match was found.
  • Unrecognized – The image was unclear or too difficult to analyze.
  • Low probability recognition – A species was guessed, but the match was very weak.

Only standard (curated) postcards trigger push notifications. You won’t receive notifications for low-confidence sightings, but they will still appear in your feed.

Power Modes in Feeder Settings

You can fine-tune how often your camera captures new postcards by adjusting Power Modes in the Feeder Settings menu. These settings control the cooldown period (rest time) between capture sessions:

  • Standard Mode (Default): A balanced setting that maintains good battery life while sending you regular postcards. If you receive fewer than 6 postcards a day, cooldown time shortens automatically.
  • Power Saver Mode: Increases cooldown time to preserve battery life. Best if you prefer fewer updates or have frequent, repetitive bird visits.
  • Frenzy Mode: Captures the most activity by minimizing cooldown time (as low as 1 minute). Great for active feeders, though some visits might still be missed during brief cooldowns.

Even in Frenzy Mode, the camera needs a short break after each session.

Summary: How to Make the Most of Your Experience

  • Low-confidence postcards are clearly labeled, with tappable tags for more info.
  • Push notifications are only sent for confidently recognized (curated) postcards.
  • Use Power Modes to control how often your feeder sends new postcards.
  • You can still filter your feed by species preferences under Settings.
